Most people have been constantly asking me what is the meaning behind my name since its not an easy name where people who aren't North Easterners to pronounce and to catch on quickly (yeah, we North Easterners are different but we love it).
Well my real name is Ibakordor Rynjah, the I in the khasi alphabet is pronounced as E so my name would be pronounced as Eba, the second part is kind of tricky; its pronounced as Kor-Dor and the last part is my last name/surname this is the name taken from my mother's clan (since we are a matriarchal society i.e. the women is the head of the family) and its pronounced as Ryn (you pronounced it as Rin) and Jah and that's it, your done. In the Khasi society we use the first name then the last name, I don't know about the other tribes in the North East though but if I do get information I would definitely write about it.
I was born in the rainiest month of the year i.e. 24th July 1990 and to this day my Mom would always narrate the story of how I got my name to people (which sometimes I kinda find it embarrassing). Well, you see my parents were both rebels of the the family and they decided to elope with each other and this in turn created many misunderstandings between the relationship of my parents and my grandparents.
However this all changed when I was born, the moment they heard the news that they have been blessed with a granddaughter all differences were settled and they welcomed my parents back home and they decided to name me Ibakordor which means 'She is the precious one' in Khasi since Iba means She/He/It is and Kordor means Precious One since I was the one who connected my parents and my grandparents once again and since I was born as the first granddaughter and grandchild of the family I was considered lucky and precious.
And thus, this is how I got the name of Ibakordor on a rainy July day.
